Discectomies & Decompressions

A discectomy is a common class of surgical procedure that involves the removal, repair, or replacement of a damaged intervertebral disc. Discectomies are usually performed to eliminate the debilitating symptoms associated with bulging, ruptured, or degenerated discs.Decompressive procedures can be performed in combination with discectomies or as standalone surgeries. Decompressions involve the removal of tiny pieces of bone in order to reverse the excruciating symptoms of a pinched nerve. This class of procedure can be used to treat a vast assortment of disorders, including spinal or foraminal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, or spinal tumours—among many others.

Minimally Invasive Spinal Fusions

Minimally invasive spinal fusions are advised when the structural instability of the spine requires the use of supportive hardware in order to prevent further damage to the spine. Unlike traditional fusion procedures, minimally invasive techniques allow for quicker recovery times and less postoperative pain than outdated methods.

Vertebral Augmentations & Revisions

Vertebral augmentations are sophisticated procedures that use surgical cement to correct vertebral compression fractures and kyphosis that result from osteoporosis or injury. Unlike the other procedures detailed in this overview, vertebral augmentations are performed entirely via needle injection, completely eliminating the need for surgical incision.

Revision spine surgeries are advanced procedures that are performed to correct failed neck or back surgeries. These complex procedures often combine more than one surgical type in order to revise a previously unsuccessful surgery.
